Rhyds Rockstar a 4 Year Old Gelding owned by Claire Fletcher, trained by Teresa Haythornwaite and driven by James Haythornwaite set a new track record for 1 mile at Tir Prince Raceway on Saturday night at Tir Prince. Conditions were perfect and the track was flying but there was still an air of disbelief about the fact that the record had been broken on the very meeting of the season as horses generally take a few weeks to get up to full speed. The race was the 4 Year Old Sire Stakes Colts and Geldings Pace and Rockstar was hot favourite due to his eye catching performances as a 3 year old. He hit the quarter pole in 28.28, the half mile in 58.1 and the three quarter pole in 1.26.5 and it was at this moment that the knowledgeable amongst the crowd realised that the previous track record of 1.56.2 was under threat and as the son of Hasty Hall breezed his last quarter in 29.6 a roar went up as the clock stopped on 1.56 on the track. The official time was soon announced as 1.56.1 and a period of confusion followed as it was initially thought that the track record had been equalled however on checking the record book it was revealed on the track that Rockstar had actually beaten the previous record by a tenth of a second! This horse has a very bright future ahead of him and he certainly seems to enjoy Tir Prince the dilemma faced by his connections now is whether to keep him just running in 4 year old events or whether to step him up to free for all class to face the likes of Miraculous and Evenwood Sonofagun. The public will certainly want to see this and the horses performance shows he’s ready but the Haythornwaite’s and Fletchers will do what they feel is right for him so we will all watch this space patiently! Everyone at Tir Prince would like to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone connected with Rhyds Rockstar and we certainly look forward to seeing him at Tir Prince again very soon.
