Our 21st birthday meeting was a memorable nights racing with 10 very fine races watched by a large crowd who basked in glorious evening sunshine. The big race was won by the favorite Stoneriggs Mystery driven imperiously by Rocker Laidler winning £4000 in the Crock of Gold, winning two years in a row after last years success with Laneside Lexus, this was however going to be his only success of the night. The most successful trainer/driver was Alan Haythornthwaite with four fantastic wins, including the three year old colts race with Long Slow Kisses beating the chafavourite Camden Daniel. Other wins included Master Hill in the maiden/novice race, Shades of Grey in the low grade pace and a welcome first place for his highly rated mare Ladyford Ideal in the future broodmare race, still only a four year old! Local trainer Jim McInally was cock a hoop after winning the three year old fillies race on Instant Coffee bred and owned locally by Jack Hooley. The big free for all trot was won by Need for Run driven by John Foy from Andrew Stenhouse driving new import Mitt Popcorn in second, having its first outing in the UK.
